Unite the left in a bloodbath!

Oh, yeah, these guys are chomping at the bit to merge with the left:

Last November the NDP traded off a national childcare system for their own short-term partisan gain. The Minister of Finance cannot comment on the high value of the Canadian dollar, but could he please comment on the low value of the NDP?

When they say "merge", they mean it in the same way as Mr. Harper's "victory" in the latest negotiations with American lumber producers. Guess who they have cast as the American lumber producers? Hint, it's not the NDP.

Oh, what, do you want a frigging band-aid? Shall I post in red-cheeked indignation every time the NDP meanies call the Liberals naughty?

If you're waiting for a love-in in parliament, try the Tories; they seem ready to coo sweet nothings in Jack's ear these days.

Jason,

I don't know if that was directed toward me or toward Greg, but in case it was me: go right ahead and post when "the NDP calls the Liberals naughty." I actually went looking for a similar statement from the NDP--I thought it'd help show that the animosity that makes a merger out of the question was on both sides--but it was getting late, and I didn't look very hard.

If you feel like helping me make my point, though, I'm certainly not going to stop you!

Well, the point that both parties are do a splendid job of fratricidal bickering is one I'm more than happy to grant.

This just seems an especially run of the mill case to me - we're 'evil neoliberal conservatives in disguise' and you're 'a senseless debating society that helps elect Harper's conservatives,' and the band plays on.

Jason,

My point is that these people loathe each other. They put us bloggers to shame when it comes to the petty bickering. I actually find no joy in this; I'd someday like to see a coalition, after all, and with the way these guys are going at each other's throats, even an exciting new Liberal leader with a fair proposal for cooperation wouldn't fix a damn thing. But it does make the thought of a merger seem kind of ludicrous. It would only turn into...well, I refer you to my post's title.

And as for why I chose that particular comment: it was a question ostensibly for the Conservatives, but aimed squarely at the NDP. They're treating the NDP like the opposition, not like a potential merger partner. It's not just Jack who ain't interested.

Given that context, it's a point well made. But as POGGE's subtitle reminds us, noone ever promised us democracy would be easy.

Who woulda thunk it...

Small Paul in the Kim Campbell role.

It's a crazy mixed-up world we live in.

Then again, when you have a Canuckistanian government spin machine that is proud to have Frank Luntz working for it.....well.....

As jason said,... you're 'a senseless debating society that helps elect Harper's conservatives,' ....
Nay, the Liberals ran a crap campaign and tried to sell the public that they really were going to be progressive, this time.

I was restating, rather than making, the traditional partisan barb.

Not to say you couldn't catch me making it sometime, but generally not in cold blood.
